Hannah's Story-Age 8
Dear V.I.P.
I'm a huge fan! I'm in the hospital for the same reason as you. Do you have any advice for me to make it less scary?
Sincerely,
Your Biggest Fan

My name is Hannah and I am 8 years old.
I had to have lung surgery.
The doctors said I would have to have a lung tube in my side for a while. This scared me a lot. I was afraid it was going to hurt when someone pulled it out. I even started to cry just thinking about it. I felt scared and nervous and a lot of other things I can't explain. I thought about all my insides coming out when someone takes out the tube. I couldn't stop thinking about it. I wondered will it take long to come out? Will it hurt?
When it was time to take it out my heart was pounding really fast. It hurt a little when the doctor took the tape off but then she took the tube out and it didn't hurt! Nothing fell out. It was all done I was crying tears of joy! I was so happy it was over.
If this happens to you have a stuffed animal or favorite toy to hold on to. You could watch a movie or listen to music while it is happening. Think happy thoughts. It didn't hurt me.
